Update: More details on drowning death of Tyler infant released

TYLER — Tyler Police have released more details in the drowning death of a Tyler infant.
9-month-old Charlotte Rodriguez died at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler after being brought there by EMS earlier in the afternoon. Earlier reports from Tyler Police that Charlotte had been flown to Children's Medical Hospital in Dallas and died there were incorrect. A Children's Medical Hospital neonatal unit flew to Tyler to pick the baby up, but her condition was deemed too unstable to be transported. She died at 10:31 pm on Wednesday.
Tyler Police say that the circumstances around the drowning are as such: The child's mother had placed Charlotte in the bathtub with her 22-month-old sister with the shower on, the drain open, and toys in the bathtub. The mother then left the bathroom briefly. When she returned, the bathtub was filling up with water and Charlotte had gone under. She believes that the toys or the drain stopper got stuck in the drain and blocked it, causing the bathtub to fill with water.
Charlotte's father was at work when the drowning ocurred.
Police are continuing their investigation. The 22-month-old sibling has been placed with family by CPS until the investigation is complete. They will determine if any charges will be filed at that time.
Police say they have been to the Rodriguez residence before on a domestic disturbance call.
