A pedestrian was killed this morning after being struck by a car in Smith County.

State troopers tell KETK, the accident it happened on Highway 31 West, just west of Greenbriar Road just before 7:00 a.m.

Troopers say Juan Espinal, 38, of Houston, parked an 18-wheeler on the side of Hwy. 31 and crossed the street to a nearby business. Authorities believe that he was checking his location and may have been lost.

The man was making his way back to his parked truck when he was struck by another vehicle and killed.

The driver of that car was not injured, and will not receive any citations related to the accident, because Espinal was not using a crosswalk.

The driver will be ticketed for infractions unrelated to the crash.
