The Lufkin Daily News reports a 58-year-old Lufkin man died after being stabbed in the neck during a fight at his home on Rowe Avenue late Tuesday night, according to a Lufkin Police report.

Police officers responded at 11 p.m. to a disturbance call at 908 Rowe Ave., where they found Frederic Gilmore lying in the front yard of his home with a wound to his neck, according to the police report. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the report.

At the scene of the stabbing, Rodney Evan Shepherd, 44, who also lived in the home, told officers that he had stabbed Gilmore. The knife believed to have been used was recovered from Shepherd’s pocket, according to the police report.

Shepherd was taken into custody without incident and taken to the Lufkin Police Department, where he was interviewed by police detectives. He was later booked into the Angelina County Jail on a charge of murder, according to police.
