UPDATE: Routine traffic stop turns into Smith County manhunt

Smith County — Smith County DPS officials tell KETK the incident began when a deputy tried to pull over a white Dodge truck on CR 2661 near The Villages.
The deputy chased the truck just north of Highway 64 West onto County Road 47, where the driver pulled over, jumped out of the truck and ran into the woods. The deputy chased after him, but was not able to catch the man.
Unbeknownst to the officer was a passenger hidden in the truck, who jumped into the driver's seat and left the scene.
A K-9 unit was called to assist in the search, but lost the scent after a short search.
As of 9:30 p.m. neither of the men had been found and police had surrendered the search.
