Lake Palestine — Noonday fire officials confirm one fisherman has been found alive, the other dead.

The deceased man has been identified as 65-year old Tommy Cook.

A DPS helicopter search was able to spot a man, Mike Ammons, alive, clinging to a stump. Crews responded and pulled him from the water.

Ammons has been taken to a local hospital. His condition is unknown.

The Smith County Game Warden tells KETK, recovery efforts are underway this morning after two fishermen went missing Wednesday evening.

Officials are launching boats to continue their search this morning. DPS helicopters will be joining them shortly.

They have staged their recovery efforts at the Villages Marina on Lake Palestine.

The names of the fishermen are not being released, pending notification of family.

The Noonday fire department tells KETK they are searching for two fishermen who went missing around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The two men had been fishing Wednesday on Lake Palestine near the Villages Marina.

Rescue crews will remain on scene throughout the morning.
