Update: Sky flash, loud boom caused by explosion at Camp Minden

Update: The Webster Parish Sheriff's Office has confirmed that an underground bunker exploded overnight at Camp Minden. The explosion site was located at dawn by law enforcement officials investigating the blast, which lit up skies over Louisiana and Texas.

No injuries or deaths have been reported.

The investigation has been turned over to state police and the military.

UPDATE: The U.S. Geological Survey shows no sign the incident was an earthquake.


 

A flash in the sky and a loud boom was followed by shaking in parts of Louisiana.

A little after 11 pm Monday night in Webster Parish of Louisiana. Officials reported an incident involving a flash in the sky The National Weather Service reports the flash was followed by broken windows in area homes and people knocked out of their beds. It is presumed that the incident occurred west of Dixie Inn. Vibrations could be felt as far west as Shreveport.
