UPDATE: Tyler fire leaves several homeless

Thursday, October 7, 2010 - 7:05pm

TYLER -- A quiet Wednesday night at Hudson Apartments turns into a nightmare for some.  Morgan Broyles says, "We were on the couch watching television and we heard a lot of noise going up and down the stairs. The apartment started filling with smoke and we managed to grab a few things."

A whole block of apartments catches fire.  Neighbors knock on each others' doors trying to warn, but most don't even know there is a fire.

Everyone gets out safely, but most of their things are burned or drenched. The Tyler fire chief says, "Eight units are fairly damaged, there is some water damage and a little smoke."

The next morning, victims come out to see the damage, and most in high spirits. "This is a tragedy, but we are trying to view it in the best way possible," says one.  All are thankful to be alive.
