An East Texas police officer is recovering in a local hospital after being hit by a car while on his motorcycle Tuesday morning.

According to Tyler Police Department Public Information Officer Don Martin, the officer was traveling westbound in the 2500 block of Calloway Road near Old Troup Highway when a man in a truck ran into the back of him at 8:26 a.m.

The officer, who was identified as Jason Seeton, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He is a 21-year veteran with the department and has been a motorcycle officer for 15 years.

The officer is still hospitalized as of Wednesday afternoon, but only has minor injuries. He is suffering from a broken foot, rib and a back injury, said Tyler police.

The driver of the pick-up was identified as Donald Blevins, 75, of Arp. Investigators concluded Blevins was at fault in the crash and has been ticketed for failure to control speed.
