UPDATE: Tyler Police Caught jewelry thieves

NEWS RELEASE FROM TYLER POLICE DEPARTMENT

On 9-01-2010, at 3:04 p.m., the Tyler Police Department responded to a call for service at 4921 S. Broadway, Murphey the Jeweler. The caller indicated that a Hispanic female just stole some jewelry and left the store.

The caller advised that the female left the scene in a black, Ford, Expedition driven by a Hispanic male.

A vehicle matching the suspect vehicle was observed by an investigator with the Smith County District Attorney.

A Tyler Patrol Officer got behind the suspect vehicle at Van Highway and Loop 323. The vehicle fled from officers and the pursuit was not continued.

The vehicle was located and apprehended a short time later by the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office. Suspects in the vehicle were taken into custody by the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office.

The Tyler Police Department Crime Scene Unit and the Property Crimes Investigators responded to the scene.

The investigation of the Felony Theft is continuing.

The names of the suspects is being withheld at this time pending positive identification by store employees.

 


TYLER - Tyler Police confirm a grab-and-run theft just occurred at Murphey the Jeweler on South Broadway.

Officers say a man and a woman took off with some jewelry, and led them on a chase. Police say they started chasing the suspects, but stopped as they crossed into Smith County on Van Highway because it became too dangerous.

Smith County Sheriff's deputies say they stopped chasing the suspects after they lost sight of them.
