SMITH COUNTY — One lane is now open to traffic on FM 757.

Since the nearest fire hydrant is 3 to 4 miles away, Firefighters are using two brush trucks to put the fire out.

Fire officials believe no houses are in danger at this time.

The fire is moving northeast.

Fire officials now believe the flames are only burning 20 acres.

Firefighters say the man was driving out to dump some old logs in the woods and he noticed his truck was sparking, then it caught fire.

the man was able to escape, but his truck was engulfed.

The fire is burning on both sides of FM 757.

Jackson Heights
Dixie
Winona
Chapel Hill
Arp

The forestry services also has several plows on scene.

The man will not face any charges because it was accidental.

Fire officials tell KETK, 30-40 acres are burning along FM 757.

The initial fire started when a man was dumping trash on his property off of 757 and his car caught fire.

The man claims there was a second fire that started. Officials do not know how the second flare started.

Multiple fire departments and forestry service are on scene.

A trench has been dug to contain the fire on the northwest side of 757.

A KETK crew reports several forestry service helicopters are in the air trying to put the blaze out.

DPS is shutting down FM 757 due to lack of visibility.

Smith County Fire officials tell us that 5 acres are burning at 7322 FM 757 in Winona.

Smith County has requested the help of other departments, including Chapel Hill and Arp Fire.

Officials say that one vehicle was burned in the blaze.
