A woman was shot in the face at an apartment complex in Tyler late Friday night.

It happened at Rose Valley Apartments on the 1000 block of NNW Loop 323, just after 9:00 pm.

When officers arrived, they found the victim, Armis Barnes, 25, of Tyler, lying just inside one of the apartments. She was immediately taken to a Tyler hospital, where she underwent surgery for her injuries. She is expected to recover.

Nobody else was injured, but authorities investigated the scene and interviewed several other people inside the apartment. This included a man named K.J. Wilson-Hurd, 20, who was taken into custody and booked into the Smith County jail for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly weapon.

His bail is set at $500,000.

No motive for the shooting has been released.

Hurd has a criminal history in Smith County, including a 2010 charge of Assault of Causing Bodily Injury to a Family Member. He also was charged with Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon in August of 2013, when he was found waving a gun in the road in a Tyler neighborhood.

At the time, authorities also connected him to the fatal shooting at PT Cole Park in Tyler on July 30, 2013, which resulted in the death of Briana Young, 20. So, in addition to his weapon charge, Hurd was issued a warrant for murder.

Three other men were also arrested and indicted for murder in that case. However, Hurd was no-billed in November. A Grand Jury will no-bill someone if they find that there is not sufficient evidence for prosecution.

KETK will continue to provide updates about Friday's apartment shooting as they become available to us.

damn he is fine

tough guy---only with a gun-----he is nothing but a PUNK !!!! Lock his A-- up !

Hope they get it right this time and send him to the big house for the rest of his natural life as he is definitely a threat to society. May the Lord heal the victim of her wounds and emotional scars caused by this crime.

Darn.. they did give him bond. True $500 Gs but I would have made it ten times that amount.

Oh well.

He looks like a sad character. I have no doubt from the photo he is issues. Serious issues.

And yes, if met in a dark ally I would presume he is up to no good.

Well aggravated assault with a deadly weapon will send him to Huntsville for a long stretch.

Doubtless they will not give him bond on this charge (at least I hope so!).

Pray the woman recovers.

What is the matter with people? For now just a short answer.
He was born to a single mom a little past her 16th birthday; she has had at least two felony charges that landed her in the penitentiary when she violated her probation. They have money for bonds, tattos and drugs but none for attorney fees, fines, probation fees or court costs.
You paid for court appointed attorney's several times, court costs, public housing, food stamps and medical care.
I'll stop there for now. The list is long

In the course of human events, would you say this person and those like him have benefitted from freedom, or would they have had better lives as slaves? Or, released back into the wilds of Haiti.

He has a criminal history? Never would have guessed...he looks like such an upstanding citizen.

What is the matter with people?

Hope she recovers fully.
