In a major defeat for supporters of tougher gun laws, the U.S. Senate on Wednesday defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on firearms sales.

The bipartisan plan was brokered by Senators Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia, and Pat Toomey, R-Pennsylvania, and was backed by President Barack Obama in his push for a package of gun laws in the aftermath of the Newtown school massacre.

The bill was a back-door registration bill that would allow the ATF to get data on all gun transactions and force private people to use FFL dealers (and thus ATF forms) to 'register' their guns.

Add to that everyone medical records would be available to the feds. Forget privacy. They would know what meds you take, when you take them, where your doctors are, etc..

Not talking about insane people, just those taking any drugs.
