This week the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a new "smart Snacks in School" federal regulation for the 2014-2015 school year.

This nutrition standard will set limits for students on salt, fat and sugar intake. Foods must contain 50% whole grain, or at least have a fruit or vegetable as the main ingredient. Drinks cannot contain over 60 calories.

Parents' responses have been mixed. Father of four Richard Rhodes thinks the government is overstepping their boundaries. Rhodes explains, "I think the local school administrators should decide what is going on in our schools and what should be supplied and when it should given. It's just too much government."

While mother of two Rosa Recado says, "I think it's very important you've got to teach your children how to eat healthy food."
