Tyler, Texas — One UT Tyler Patriot doesn't leave all his skills on the basketball court. Josiah Summerville, is a sophomore at UT Tyler, who spends nearly twenty hours a week playing basketball. But last year, when Summerville was in a freshman English class he wrote a story, that he thought, was just another assignment.

Summerville said, "i wanted the A, I wanted an A for the class and an A for the paper." Not only did he make the grade, but he also made the most recent edition of the "New York Tyrant," as a published author in the highly esteemed literary journal, out of New York. He says his recent success in the classroom hasn't gone unnoticed by his teammates. Summerville said, "They'll be like i didn't know you was a writer, and I'm like I'm not a writer, I just got lucky I guess." His freshman teacher, Luke Goebel, says this was more than luck. "It was fresh, in terms of idiom, manner of speech, in terms of heart there was just a dearness to his work," said Goebel. He was originally from New York, also happened to be guest editing this edition of the Tyrant. He says Josiah's work stood out to him. "It was head and shoulders above what I was expecting in the class," said Goebel.

Summerville's coach says he's not surprised by his player's achievement. Kenny Bizot, said, "He's a very humble individual, somebody who understand hard work and that hard work produces results." Bizot says UT Tyler pays special attention to working with their athletes, to make sure getting a degree, and not just a win is their number one goal.

Sumerville will be reading his story for the public tomorrow night at the University Center theater at 7:00pm.
