U.T. Tyler to serve as Facility in case of Disaster

TYLER - The City of Tyler entered into an agreement this week with the University of Texas at Tyler to use facilities there as a medical needs shelter in cases of emergency.

The agreement says upon declaration of a public health emergency or disaster, a medical special needs shelter will be operated out of the Louise Herrington Patriot Center on campus.

In September 2008, Hurricanes Gustav and Ike sent thousands of fleeing residents seeking shelter into Tyler.
