Longview, TX — Its only been two weeks since VFW Post 4002 in Longview faced the possibility of losing their charter and closing their doors. Fearing the worse members stepped up and filled vacant officer positions allowing the post to remain open.
During the last two weeks new officers were stunned to learn they may be forced to close anyways. Unpaid bills have stacked up and now Post 4002 owes nearly $20,000 in late bills.
Previous fundraisers, such as motorcycle rallies and bingo, are long gone and fewer active members have left the post scrambling for funds.
The new officers have come up with a plan to "stop the bleeding" as they say but they tell KETK they can only implement it once the bills are paid off.
With only about a month left before they will be forced to close, Post 4002 is reaching out to the community for help. Mark England, VFW Post 4002 Quartermaster, tells KETK asking the community for help is their last hope.
Donations can be dropped off or mailed to VFW Post 4002 at 401 Ambassador Row Longview, TX 75604 or you can call (903) 753-2413. Visit their facebook page for more information.
The Post does host a steak dinner every Friday night that is opened to the public with the proceeds going towards to the VFW.
