Texas Lieutenant Governor, David Dewhurst, is catching flack for a call he made to a local police department in an effort to spring a relative from jail.

According to Dewhurst's Press Secretary, the 46-year-old suspect is Dewhurst's niece.

She was arrested for shoplifting at a grocery store.

In the taped phone call, the clearly frustrated state leader is heard demanding to talk to the most senior officer at the Allen Police Department, calling the arrest a mistake.

Dewhurst's press secretary released a statement saying the Lieutenant Governor acted as a family member in an attempt to find out how to post bail for his niece.

Wonder if this big fat blunder will crater dew's run for the governorship? But I guess this is the way Texas men in powerful positions feel they should be treated...a phone call, a little arm-twisting...who cares about due process, criminal activity, keeping your big mouth shut...oh, but it's a relative, dew? Let's see how it all works out for one of us ordinary folks when we call and demand to speak to the "senior" person in charge in a similar vote for dew here!!
