Record of violence at John Tyler
Roger Gray / KETK News

TYLER— John Tyler students and parents were worried about violence on campus even before fatal stabbing of teacher Todd Henry. KETK filed an open records request to see just how bad things were.
Reporter Roger Gray investigated reports involving John Tyler and the law.
On the first day alone, three arrests were made including a Class C misdemeanor. In the first month of school, Tyler Police responded to campus incidents 23 times. Out of 23 disturbances, 14 were misdemeanors or felonies.

A couple of people say it is no big deal and berate the news team. One person says not enough research was done and berates the news team with calls of a "wimpy story." Yet a teacher is still dead and the past facts are there in the public record.
What are people such lazy, arrogant, cowardly know-it-alls.... and apparently confused? Yet they don't get up and actually do anything (save that for those useless "Tea Parties", I guess) although they can all agree somehow the news didn't get it right.
Thank goddness the Tyler Area Officer is here to tell us how bad the news station is although he apparently could do nothing to save the teacher. So of course - go after the news!
"only arrest were for Resisting Arrest, Agg Assault and Murder." That sentence is actually tragicaly funny! Great use of our tax money - sorry teacher, but thanks, officer!

1 month agoOMG you think you have news on this (this was a whimpy news item)......try doing an open records request going back for years then you will see how bad the cover up has been. I know for a fact over 10+ years.
Why don't you really do a news story on this item and bring it all to light to see how deep this really goes. Then you will know that teachers on a daily basis put their lives on the line for years not to mention all the students that attended daily with open violence on campus. Open pandora's box on the TISD admin. and handling of campus violence not only at JT but Lee as well and you might just find a real news item in hiding of the problems if you have the stomach to really do a news story.

1 month agoHmmmm....looks like it occurs first thing in the morning, at lunch time, and then at time to go home. Largely unsupervised time periods.

1 month agoThese numbers are only meaningful if put into the context of how they compare with other campuses - especially those that are statistically similar. I would like to see the same statistics reported for all East Texas high schools of comparable size.

1 month agoNo arrest were made for the Class C Misdemeanor the only arrest were for Resisting Arrest, Agg Assault and Murder. If you are going to broadcast information make sure you got it right! Also people should know that a class C Misdemeanor is the same thing as a traffic citation no diffrent than if you ran a red light.....
