Volunteers took to the streets of East Texas to deliver meals
TYLER, TEXAS (KETK) — Meals on Wheels kicked off their March for Meals national campaign 'Mayor's for Meals', it's to bring awareness of senior hunger. Dozens of local organizations, KETK and FOX 51 talent, 19 mayors and volunteers packed up warm meals on Wednesday to deliver a hot meal to seniors.
Six East Texas counties took part in delivering meals. East Texans would received a meal tell us they are so happy and thankful for the food.
Volunteers we spoke to say just seeing the people's faces was rewarding. They tell us the ministry is such as great opportunity for them to get food when they're not able to and they're always overjoyed and always excited just to have this meal.
Organizers appreciate the effort of East Texans to make this mission possible. "You really don't realize it's as simple as coming to the center collecting your meals and delivering them directly to the door of our clients and so once people usually do that and see that it only takes an hour and it truly is such a rewarding experience, they're always calling us saying thank you so much for allowing us to do this," said Zoe Lawhorn, Meals on Wheels Vice President of Development & Public Relations
