Voter registration deadline nears for Nov. 5 election
LONGVIEW (The Longview News Journal) — Monday is the deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 5 Texas Constitutional amendment election.
And while the fall ballot will be the first test of Texas’ new voter ID law, photo identification is not required to register, Gregg County Elections Administrator Kathryn Nealy said.
“I don’t have to see IDs when you register to vote,” she said. “But on the application, it will ask for either your driver’s license number, just for the number, or the last four digits of your Social Security number.”
Gregg County residents who are not registered to vote have until 5 p.m. Monday to register in Nealy’s office on the first floor of the courthouse in Longview.
People mailing in registration forms must ensure they are postmarked by Monday.
“As long as it’s postmarked by the 7th, we will take it,” Nealy said. “You cannot register online. You can print the application online and then mail it — not drop it in the mailbox the seventh. It has to be postmarked the seventh.”
For information on registering to vote in Gregg County, call Nealy’s office at (903) 236-8454 during business hours.
Early voting is Oct. 21 through Nov. 1.
