Whitehouse — Eight days after Whitehouse lost in the playoffs, Randy McFarlin was fighting for his life. The Whitehouse coach was in a terrible accident near Gilmer. His family's car was hit by another driver. McFarlin suffered a lacerated spleen, a broken pelvis, a broken arm and ten broken ribs.

McFarlin told KETK's Danny Elzner, "My wife and I, my son and his fiance were coming back from a funeral. In an instant our lives were changed."

McFarlin lost his spleen and he lost part of his small intestine. He got pneumonia twice and he had fluid build up around his heart.

McFarlin is better now. He coached in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes' All-Star Game and he's looking forward to this season.

"Each day you get up now, it's a new lease on life," McFarlin said.  "You thank God for the day, give me the strength to make it through."

McFarlin added, "It's really a new outlook on each day now."
