The Walling's Pharmacy in Grapeland has been a part of the community for nearly a century. However, after 87 years of business, the store has closed its doors

KETK spoke with the owner of the pharmacy, Daniel Walling, who joked, "You might say I'm sad... to know I've gotten that old. But it's been a family business all these years".

His father opened the pharmacy in 1927. Walling followed in his footsteps, taking over the family business after serving in the Air Force. Walling said, "I was discharged from the Air Force in 1955, and moved back to Grapeland".

Of course, he took his sweetheart with him. His wife, Elaine Walling, laughed and explained, "He said to me, 'We'll go to Grapeland and we'll live there for about a year so I can give Daddy a vacation'. After 59 years we're still here".

The two have enjoyed many happy years, raising a family and building a successful business. Walling said, "I wish that I could just go on forever", while his wife shared, "It's going to be an adjustment. because every day since we've been married he's been going to a drug store somewhere".

Even though the Walling's Pharmacy can no longer be found on Main Street, its impact on the Grapeland community, will not be forgotten.
