Java will be sold in licensed retail stores that open in Washington next month
Longview, WA — A new coffee product that could soon be hitting shelves offers a special ingredient that just recently became legal in the state: cannabis.
The pot-infused cold-brewed coffee is called "Legal." Each bottle will contain about 20 milligrams of THC, the chemical in marijuana that makes you high. That's enough to give you what the company's founder calls an "alert, creative high."
"The recommendation that we put on the bottle is start with half, wait an hour, see how you feel, then have the rest of it," said Adam Stites.
Stites is the founder of Mirth Provisions. Along with the spiked coffee, they also have four kinds of sparkling cannabis-infused, fruit-flavored sodas.
Stites says the products will be sold exclusively at the 334 licensed marijuana retail stores that open in Washington next month.
Stites hopes to have the drinks ready in time, pending inspection by Washington's Department of Agriculture. The 11 ounce drinks are expected to sell for as much as $11.00 a bottle.
