Breaking news out of Waskom this morning:

Harrison County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Jay Web confirms Gerald Rushton, who is believed to be in his 60s, died after being attacked by his pet deer.

Deputies say it was his granddaughter that called to alert them of the attack. When they arrived at the scene, Mr. Rushton was unresponsive.

Rushton raised the buck since it was young, and today when he was trying to move the deer from one location to another, it kicked him. Officials say he owned an exotic deer farm, raising and selling deer for numerous years.

Game wardens have since shot the deer. Deputies warn of the dangers of raising a wild animal as a pet.

What an idiot! Why not a pet lion while we are at it! One less imbecile in the world tonight!

deer are wild animals but they move into society when they have no woods to go to. so just drop the fact that they are wild bc they all around you and you dont know it.

Quote"drop the fact that they are wild animals"?????!!!!! Ummm......they are wild animals, and dangerous no matter where they are! What are you babbling about??? Your "comments" and I'm being polite by calling them "comments" are nonsensical! If you want to re-post them, please do so in English this time!

@ ARush - I'm really sorry for your loss. I'm sure the deer was usually not like that to your grandfather. I have heard that they can turn on people who have raised them. We have raised one and will make sure it doesn't come around when it's bigger. It is still small, but we are aware of the fact that it needs to go on and be on it's own as it grows. They are wild animals and we just never know what they are thinking, even when they have been raised by humans for whatever reason. So sorry.

Who are you apologizing to? A troll who claims to be the man's granddaughter? Do you really believe that his family members are not mourning and being with each other, but spending their time trolling a TV station message board in Texas to see what people are saying about this??? I guess you were the gullible one in the family! LOL!

This person claiming to be the idiot's granddaughter claims that this mad had permission and a license to raise him! That is bull! It is illegal to possess or raise a red stag deer in Texas, and the local authorities were surprised to find that this animal was caged on private property!

Actually they were registered deer my grandfather had a license for raising them! Your sarcastic remarks are greatly unappreciated during my family's time of mourning! Have some sympathy and quit being a donkey's rear! The deer in case you failed to read killed my grandfather not just kicked him you ass!

They shot the deer for kicking the guy? Um, take heed wild animals, you will be shot and killed for being wild animals. You can't say we didn't warn you.

No pj, the animal was not put down for being a "wild animal" it was put down because it was a wild animal that now, thanks to the crazy old coot who raised him, had lost his fear of humans and because of this, was exceptionally dangerous! See how wonderful the world becomes when you allow yourself to think things through, rather than making short-sighted, asinine comments like yours!

Learn something new every day. Was not aware you could raise deer.....thought they were born and lived in the wild. LOL
