Christmas can be an emotional, hard time for many people because they're alone or don't have plans.

If you don't know how you're going to spend Christmas, know that your Christmas can still be special.

There are many reasons why some find themselves alone or without plans for Christmas and gracious East Texans are giving great advice to those who are trying to find ways to get in the Christmas spirit.

"Going to church and spending time with a friend can lift your spirits," says Carol Grants, of Tyler. "I don't have family, but I do have new friends that have opened up their hearts and their home to me. Meet your neighbors and invite someone over you see that's alone in your neighborhood. Get your Bible out and look to the Bible story, it tells you why we have Christmas."

Are you looking for more ideas to get in the Christmas spirit? Try these suggestions to put some pep in your step this holiday season:

  • Catch a movie or watch your favorite Christmas classic at home.

  • Grab a cup of coffee.

  • Bake.

  • Make a traditional family dish.

  • Take a drive or stroll to check out Christmas lights.

You can also be a best friend by fostering a pet, doing something you love, possibly a hobby, play a sport or volunteer. Just know, this Christmas, you won't be alone.
