"We don't have time for this silliness"
The White House released President Obama's "long form" birth certificate Wednesday in hopes of settling the controversy over his birthplace.
The certificate shows the president was born August 4th, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii, on the island of Oahu.
It shows the hospital where Mr. Obama was born and it's signed by his mother, the doctor and the state register.
The White House says it settled the issue in 2008 when the president's campaign requested his birth certificate.
Hawaiian officials sent the standard "short form", which is the same legal document all Hawaiians receive as proof of birth and posted that on the White House website.
However, the White House says those opposed to the president kept the issue alive.
President Obama called the controversy a "side show" that had left him "bemused and puzzled", but decided to request and release the long form certificate now because the country has important issues to deal with and "we don't have time for this silliness".
