WHITEHOUSE-Saturday's wet weather was a factor in a fatal accident in Whitehouse.
A 24-year-old woman traveling on Highway 110 around 11 am Saturday, began hydroplaning and veered into oncoming traffic. Officers tell us the woman's small sport utility vehicle struck a minivan head on.
The woman died at the scene, the two people in the minivan were taken to the hospital, with non-life threatening injuries.

You have a right to disagree Randall, but the fact remains that this part of the hiway has an inherant danger that the rest of the hiway going into Tyler does not. Proof by just the number of Accident reports filed. Roads have design specs that require the center of the road have a "Crown" or high point that is a minimum distance above the outside edges of the road for "water shed". This part of the road does not qualify to meet that specification by visible observation. I just hope they do something about it before yours or one of mine are hurt, or even worse.
"Anyone in the state of Texas should be able to travel down a straight stretch of road in the rain, going the Speed Limit, and not be in fear of Hydoplaning.... " --- WRONG WRONG WRONG. The maximum speed limit in Texas is not necessarily what is posted on the signs, it's what's "appropriate for conditions," which includes rain. It's safe to assume that you never slow down in the rain until you start hydroplaning. Foolish.
While being true you must alter your speed to conditions in order maintain control however, what Doug is trying to convey is the stretch of road he is talking about does not drain well. I am a proffesional driver of over 15 years. I travel that area of road daily; during rain the road holds a considerable and measurable amount of water. I had to slow my SUV to 35 mph in the 55mph area to remain in control. Even tho I reduced speed my vehicle still hit bodys of water causing hydroplaing.
That section of road needs to be re-evaluated and perhaps crowned properly to assist in water drainage. It holds WAY too much water.
I have been travaling up and down Hwy 110 for more than eight years and have never seen the Accidents and [Near Misses] that have Occurred on that 1000ft of road since it was taken up and relaid (I believe) in 2008. I have seen numerious cars that have been thrown into that South Bound ditch leaving Whitehouse. Most have been lucky enough not to suffer the same fate as this young lady. Anyone in the state of Texas should be able to travel down a straight stretch of road in the rain, going the Speed Limit, and not be in fear of Hydoplaning.... You can't do thet there! IT'S VERY DANGEROUS! Anyone that travels that hyway regularly knows NOT to use the inside lanes, either comming into or going out of Whitehouse when it's raining. Our Elected County Officals should have reviewed that section of road as soon as the Accident reports started flowing in. They have an obligation and a duty to the people of this county to see that the building or maintaining of our roads meet State Construction Specifications. I can bet the bank that this 1000ft of road would not pass specs.
WAY TO GO FELLS! You ignored this long enough to get someone killed. I hope your sleeping well tonight.
Has KETK you been off the air? I haven't been able to get you here in Longview since Friday evening. My daughter hasn't been able to get you either.
