The East Texas Community Food Coalition is bringing local farmers, food, and artists to Downtown Tyler!

City Librarian Mary Vernau will ring the opening bell at the Farmers Market at the Library at 7 a.m. on May 9. Located on the brick terrace at the Tyler Public Library, this truly local farmers’ and artists’ market will offer fresh produce, cut flowers and herbs, locally roasted coffee, and works by local artists. It will be open every Thursday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Come to Tyler Public Library’s Farmers Market and stay for a class. A series of six classes and demonstrations by various local experts will start Thursday, May 2. All of the classes are free, but there may be a charge for materials and supplies. Classes will be held on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. in Taylor Auditorium.

The first class is East Texas Vegetable Gardening, which will feature Mark Bickerstaff from Petty’s Nursery. He will show home gardeners and small market gardeners how to achieve remarkable results. Bickerstaff will discuss older heirloom plants and newer hybrid plants. He will also give tips for water conservation, irrigation and composting. There is no charge or registration required for this class.

Other classes include: Earth-Kind Roses, East Texas Flower Gardens, Cherry Tomato Container Gardening, Composting 101: from Kitchen to Garden, Lip Balm and Herbs That Heal.
