(CNN) — Four chain pharmacies in Beijing started the trial operation to sell baby formula milk powder on Saturday at vending machine.
Workers were seen adjusting the vending machines on Friday afternoon in a pharmacy store where four shelf display cabinets were placed with 120 cans of milk powder. According to the workers, the vending machine is quite easy to operate. And customers can use both the UnionPay card and the social networking app Wechat to pay for the product.
During the trial operation, cash is not accepted. Currently 11 brands of milk powder go on sale in five stores of the four chain pharmacies. Each can of milk powder has a special two-dimension code featuring product information. And all the products are transported to the pharmacy stores by specially designated logistic companies.
By 2014, the milk powder will be sold at 10,000 pharmacy stores in 100 cities with high consumption capacity.
