A missing East Texas child made national headlines after it was learned he had been hiding inside a local Walmart for days.

According to the Corsicana Police Department, an officer was called to a home on a report of a 14-year-old runaway on July 28. The juvenile's aunt told police the child was temporarily staying there while his parents were out of town from their home in Rice, Texas.

The woman stated the teenager had run out of the home while she was watching the television. Police also later learned the child had a history of leaving home.

On July 29, a sergeant followed up on the call and discovered the teen had a history of hiding in abandoned houses, creeks and business, but not Walmart.

On Wednesday at about 10:47 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the local Walmart on reports of a juvenile inside the store. The teen had been missing for about 54 hours. Once authorities arrived, the juvenile was taken to police headquarters and appeared to be in good physical condition.

NBCDFW.com reported the 14-year-old had been living in a boxes behind the store's baby section. CBS DFW stated the teen was living off food in the store and even used diapers to avoid using the store's restroom. He also had a pet goldfish.

Walmart does not plan to press charges. The case has been handed over to the Navarro County Juvenile Probation Office.
