Fake vet in Texas treats more than 50 animals
Houston (KHOU) — According to Houston Police, a man pretending to be a vet treated dozens of family pets before finally being caught.
Authorities stated Wilfredo Gutierrez, 26, is not a licensed veterinarian, but has been acting as one for the last year. They say he operated a business-- making house calls, treating dogs and cats, administering vaccines and providing pet meds. Turns out he worked as a vet tech at a clinic, which is how authorities believe he got ahold of those meds.
More than 50 victims have come forward, and so far, no one has reported their pet has died or fallen severely ill while under his care. Police believe there are likely more victims, specifically in northwest Houston.
Gutierrez pleaded guilty to practicing veterinary license without a license. He is also charged with possession of a controlled substance. He's being held on a $50,000 bond.
