The hairless and clean-shaven stood in bewhiskered awe as the fourth annual Just For Men® National Beard and Moustache Championship took center stage this Saturday at the New Orleans House of Blues. The world’s largest facial hair competition invaded New Orleans and drew in hundreds of “beardsmen” from around the world who boasted some of the wildest whiskers architecture has seen yet.

Contestants competed for the gold in one of 18 different categories ranging from the au-natural to the gravity-defying freestyle, and faced-off to impress a lively panel of judges that included, New Orleans locals the 610 Stompers, facial hair expert Aidan Gill and local journalist Doug MacCash.

Competitors went beard-to-beard in judging at The House of Blues and 18 claimed first place titles in their respective categories. Jeff Langham, champion of the full beard natural category, was also the winner of the Blue Beards Original People’s Choice Award, which included a cash prize of $1,000. Category specific champions included James Daly who wowed the judges with his perfectly groomed freestyle partial beard, and Keith Haubrich, whose Dali moustache charmed the crowds.

To determine the winners, the judges were asked which contestant’s facial hair best enhanced his overall appearance, style and personality. In the freestyle categories the judges were asked to consider originality and creativity as well.

Before the competition, the follicle-filled event kicked-off Saturday morning with a traditional New Orleans second-line brass band parade that danced its way from the Sheraton Hotel through the French Quarter. The event wrapped with awards presentations and a competition after party. For more event information, visit
