Imagine going on a leisurely snorkel and then seeing what's in this picture!

It is a rare 18-foot oarfish that was spotted just off Catalina Island in southern California. It was first seen by an island Marine institute instructor who approached the snake-like fish very cautiously before she realized it was dead.

It took a total of 15 adults to move the creature to shore. Experts say it's extremely rare to find an oarfish--- dead or alive.

The fish is believed to live mostly in water more than 3,000 feet deep, leaving them largely unstudied by scientists.

The giant oarfish is the longest bony fish species and can reach lengths of 56 feet.
