Teen confesses to burying newborn baby
Franklin County, Texas (WNCN) — A 16-year-old confessed to burying her newborn baby in a side yard near her home in Franklin County, Sheriff Jerry Jones said Monday.
Following up on a tip, Jones said deputies first came to the home Sunday evening asking to speak to the teen, but were told she was not home. They returned when the girl's father called and said they needed to come back.
Jones said authorities found the 8-and-a-half pound baby girl Sunday at 10 p.m.. The mother confessed she buried the child.
Deputies found the newborn's body in a brown grocery bag buried in a shallow grave beside the home. The father of the child is a teen as well, Jones said.
Authorities believe the baby was born Sunday around lunchtime but are still investigating. Jones said the State Medical Examiner's Office determined the baby had been born healthy.
