West Rusk Superintendent, Tommy Alexander, has broken his silence on the missed West Rusk scholarship deadline.

Scholarships were not only promised to the 2013 senior class, but to every graduating class until the funds ran out.

As of 8:36 p.m., Wednesday, no funding has been received by East Texas Baptist University via Houston film maker, Nicolas Sturghill.

The deadline for the funding was 4:00 p.m., today.

In Alexander's statement, he says the man who pledged the scholarships on behalf of Sturghill, Robert Jordan, informed him on Tuesday, Sturghill would not be home from London, England in time to present the money for the scholarships to ETBU.

Alexander is hopeful the payments can be worked out in the near future.

West Rusk High School Principal, Jake Jackson informed Alexander on Wednesday, five seniors planned to continue their educational journeys at ETBU.

According to Alexander, Dr. Bill Holda, president of Kilgore Junior College, has reached out to West Rusk seniors and made good on previous scholarship aide promised to them during the spring semester. It is also Alexander's understanding that he has allowed some form of discount to the incoming college freshmen.

Alexander wrote, "I have always believed that everything happens for a reason. Sometimes, it may be hard to fully understand that reason. But, this I do know, five West Rusk 2013 graduating seniors plan to attend ETBU this fall; and it would not surprise me if several of their classmates join them at ETBU after attending Kilgore College or another college for a year or so, and none of that would have happened if they had not visited and toured the ETBU campus on July 11, 2013."

Prior to the release of this statement, KETK tried multiple times to contact Alexander with information obtained from Sturghill and his business manager, Jenifer Pool, and all calls/e-mails were not returned.

Thank you for posting this. Mr. Alexander, you are not to blame for this and a I know many people have contacted you for information. You held tight to a promise that was made, believing that a man is good at his word.Sadly not all people live by that standard. Hopefully, Mr. Sturghill will in some way try to make good on his promise or at least help with donations to the fund set up.

I have believed all along that God would provide for these kids and He is!!! In amazing ways. Be blessed!
