White Oak ISD school trustees plan to hold a rare town hall meeting on school security on Sunday, the day before school resumes after the holiday break.
White Oak Superintendent Mike Gilbert said today that the board of trustees agreed to call the meeting in response to community questions after the Sandy Hook school shootings.
“People were concerned, but it was all happening just as school was letting out and everyone was leaving town,” Gilbert said. “So we agreed to meet to answer questions before right before classes started back up.”
Gilbert said, during the 2:30 p.m. meeting Sunday, he hoped to explain current programs in place to ensure student safety and to hear ideas from the public.
“This meeting is for anyone who has concerns. Anyone who has ideas. It’s just what it sounds like -- a town meeting to give information and take part in a community-wide discussion.”
