White Oak OKs EMS contract, with costs
White Oak — City Council members were unanimous Tuesday in renewing an ambulance contract that makes White Oak pay for service for the first time.
Champion EMS, which has provided emergency transport in White Oak for several years, asked $90,000 annually for the five-year renewal approved Tuesday.
Stan Holden, CEO of the nonprofit service owned equally by Good Shepherd Medical Center and Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals, told council members changes brought on by health care reform are to blame.
The Affordable Care Act, he said, reduced reimbursements to Champion, and his board is spreading the expense equally to its client cities.
