White says Perry ducking questions
AUSTIN, Texas — Democrat Bill White says he's made enough financial disclosures and that Republican Gov. Rick Perry shouldn't use that as an excuse to avoid a debate.
White described Perry on Tuesday as a career politician who thinks he can set the terms of a debate. But White said a gubernatorial debate is a matter of accountability to the public. And he claims Perry is afraid to answer questions about the multibillion-dollar state budget shortfall.
Perry spokesman Mark Miner said Perry is ready to debate, but only once White "comes clean" and releases his tax returns from all his years in public office. Perry has given a Wednesday deadline for that to happen.
White has released tax returns from 2004 to 2009, when he was mayor of Houston.
