Why leave John Tyler for Conroe Oak Ridge?
Dereck Rush is leaving John Tyler to coach Conroe Oak Ridge.
JT went to the state semifinals last year.
Oak Ridge won just one game last season.
Rush will have a bigger opportunity at a bigger school.
He'll hire 48 coaches and he'll have full control of his middle schools.
That experience will one day help him become an athletic director.
That will help him take care of his family.
Rush told KETK's Danny Elzner that family comes first.
"It's definitely emotional. Any time you invest nine years of your life and you're spending more time with the players than with your family, it's going to be an emotional deal. It's the hardest thing I've had to do since my mom passed away when I was a senior in high school. John Tyler will keep winning football games. These kids are strong young men. They understand the choice I made and why I made it."
