The city of Winnsboro is facing an unprecedented investigation of two police officers by the FBi.
Is all stems from a case back in 2008, involving a traffic stop.
Jason Brummell of Pittsburg, Texas was stopped on a traffic violation, but his vehicle was searched for drugs.
He says, a bag of marijuana was planted inside the vehicle by a male and female officers, Captain Rod Hashaway and Shirley Amerson. There was a 3rd officer involved, Terry Bevil, who has since left the department.
The case was dismissed by the Wood County District Attorney Jim Wheeler, and the records completely expunged.
Brummell later sued the city and the case was settled in 2010 with no one admitting guilt, but Brummell was awarded a cash settlement.
There was dashcam video of the bust, which Chief J.L. Miller says shows a simple and straightforward stop and search.
But the FB I, according to Miller, says it has new evidence in the case, including an enhanced version where the subject of planting drugs can supposedly be heard.
The District Attorney told the chief they can only communicate in writing now.
The DA also says he won’t prosecute any cases, from anyone in the Winnsboro Police Department, until this investigation is over.
