Woman shot near local hospital

July 20, 2009 - 5:10pm

TYLER-Police say a man shot his ex-girlfriend multiple times Monday morning as she arrived for work at a Tyler hospital before turning the gun on himself.

Employees at ETMC hospital in Tyler are shocked that for the second time in two years an employee of ETMC has been shot just yards away from the hospital.

Police tell us just before 2:30 a.m. Charles Aundrell Bell, 29, waited in his parked car on Hospital Drive for his ex-girlfriend Amber Lashea Pinkney,27, to show up for work. Pinkney works as an admission's clerk in the emergency room at ETMC and is also the mother to Bell's child.

Police say Pinkney arrived at work and just as she was getting out of her car Bell opened fire. Police say she was shot three times. Then Bell reportedly turned the gun on himself.

After being shot Pinkney dragged herself to the entrance on the emergency room where she underwent emergency surgery. She is listed in stable condition.

I saw the flowers and thought Amber Pinkney died. How lucky she crawled into the emergency room.
