Crews began work Tuesday on the George Richey Road extension in North Longview.

The two-year, $12.9 million project will connect McCann Road to U.S. 259, and a second project will connect the northern corridor to Texas 300.

“We are going to work on the section from McCann to Judson initially,” said Richard Townsend, vice president of East Texas Bridge, which is overseeing the work.

The extension of George Richey, also known as FM 2275, is a massive undertaking supported by the city, county, Longview Metropolitan Planning Organization, Longview Economic Development Corp. and the Texas Department of Transportation. City officials have said the project will open up hundreds of acres for development in North Longview.
