Workshop offers educators insight into mining processes
Hallsville — An annual workshop this week proves science never sleeps — even during the summer.
Teachers from all over the state gathered at North American Coal Sabine Mine in Hallsville for a workshop on earth science.
Since 1991, the Texas Mining and Reclamation Association has provided the free workshop to educate teachers on earth science and geology, a topic that is the source of the state’s lowest scores on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR).
“We want to give classroom teachers a free workshop in the summer to learn concepts and activities they can then take back to the classroom and apply to real-world problems,” said Francye Hutchins, the association’s Education Director.
