We cary them everywhere, but many rarely wash them. Purses, handbags, backpacks, etc.

So just how sanitary are these shoulder accessories?

A study conducted by a Bristish hygene company shows that 20% of these statement side sachels are about as clean as your average, toilet seat.

The study showed one in every five handbags carried high levels of bacteria, leather bags being the worst—he soft material is a breading ground for bacteria.

Russell Hopkins from Northeast Texas public health district says you should clean your bags regularly.

Hopkins says, "We don't make a habit of doing it and we should, because you can spread disease."

Hopkins says you should keep a few things on hand to make sure you get rid of those nasty germs. 1. Disinfectant wipes, always wipe down your bag or purse or laptop case. Also, hand sanitizer, always wash your hands or use hand sanitizer before and after you touch your bag. Also, there is this pretty cool thing it's called a purse hook, you can get it at walmart or a boutique for about five to ten dollars,  All you do is put it on the edge of a table at a restaurant or anywhere you are, and then take your purse put the strap right over the the hook and it hangs, preventing it from touching that nasty floor. We did a little investigation at the KETK studio.

Kendall Kirkham's designer bag was where many of us unconciously keep them, on the floor.

Kendall shows her sanitizing wipe as she says describes what she sees, "This is what just came off my purse, I don't know what it is, but it's pretty disgusting."

So will you wash your purse and handbag more now?

The studay also showed that the inside of purses and handbags were just as bad as the outside.
