Green Acres Baptist Church held a 'Girl Power 2013-2014' event on Saturday from 8:30a.m.-11:30 a.m., sponsored by The Junior League of Tyler. The event is designed to inspire and influence Smith County sixth grade girls to be making good decisions.

Girl Power leaders encourage young girls to focus on self-esteem, health, nutrition, and volunteerism.

The Junior League tells us that find that middle school girls are in the time of their lives where they're faced with making decisions.

"We had yoga, zumba, speakers talk about healthy snacks, we had an exercise demonstration," said Amy Pearson, Co-Chair.  Motivational speakers gave the girls great advice about being empowered. The schools are took part in donating to the East Texas Food Bank.

The leadership skills that they take away from the Girl Power program will help them as young girls and as they grow into young women.

Girl Power has two events a year and is only for sixth grade girls in Smith County. Leaders say, events like this help young girls become leaders.
