Zavalla school district uses technology grant for iPods for students
AS REPORTED IN THE LUFKIN DAILY NEWS:
ZAVALLA —With the touch of a screen, Zavalla ISD seventh- and eighth-graders can open up a new world of educational opportunities.
The district received a competitive grant through Region 7 to effectively improve student academic achievement through the use of technology.
With that money, Zavalla ISD technology director Gary Mitchell said they bought 90 iPod Touches — one for every seventh- and eighth-grade student — along with 11 MacBooks and a charging station.
“The grant wanted us to use multimedia, technology, teachers and students and integrate it all together,” Mitchell said. “We were the smallest school in the state to receive a grant and the only one in Angelina County. We’re looking at the next five years as being one-to-one in which every student has some kind of an electrical device.”
