It has been 16 months since George Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon Martin in Florida.

On Monday, Jury selection began for Zimmerman's second-degree murder trial.

Prosecutors say Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch patroller, profiled the African-American teen, and provoked the deadly confrontation.

Zimmerman says he was attacked by Martin, and feared for his own life, despite the fact that the 17 year old was unarmed.

The case has made headlines from the beginning and stirred up public outrage over the racial aspects of the incident.

"I want open minds, people who have not made up their minds. And people who are strong enough to decide the case on the facts of the law and not on the external public pressures," said Mark O'Mara, Attorney for George Zimmerman. "My concern is about this case all along has been that we have so much pressure on the case with the system, that any verdict, no matter what it might be, might not be accepted as the proper one, even if it is."

With the extensive media coverage the case has gotten and will continue to get as the trial gets underway, the judge has decided to sequester the jurors once they are chosen.

The process is expected to take several weeks.

You are full of it Brenda, Zimmerman was just doing his job, and just for the record this never would have made the headlines and turned racial if Martin had not been black. All those people raising cane nation wide including your president not because they knew the kid, but simply because Martin was black, now that is prejudice. In Martins own words " I'm a Gangster ".

I sorry he didn't have an open mind when he got out of his vehicle and pursued the young man. As far as I'm concerned and as a mother, he was a predator. I think that he thinks he can hide behind his father's reputation as an officer of the court. If Zimmerman had not had a gun this would have never happened. He is and was out for vigilantly justice.

Brenda,

Once again there is no proof that GZ ever persued TM. Even when the dispatchers asks are you following and he says yes we do not know if he was persuing or just following in the same direction and keeping an eye out. GZ has stated that he was doing the latter. There is zero evidence that he followed or persued after the phone call. You can't bandie about and cry vigilantism when you have no eye witness and all the injuries are concistent with GZ taking a one sided beating.

Yeah right...the poor forever victim so misunderstood casing-out his next burglary victim...angered that someone should try and protect their property. Hispanics don't carry the same guilt trips as those media has laid on whites.
