Who took away your right to discipline your children? The law clearly allows parents to discipline children; including spankings. Texas law allows the use of force, but not deadly force, to discipline a child. Corporal punishment is acceptable. You can ask any police officer and most will tell you that they would rather you spank your child because the children would be less likely to end up in the back of their police cars. Now beating a child or abusing them is a different story...
