Here's an analogy--In an old village, there's a village well that everyone drinks from, and everyone has backyard privies. What happens in the privies eventually makes it into the groundwater, but in a much reduced, and safer form. The village idiot comes along, and 'befouls' the well. Naturally, everyone gets mad. The idiot wonders why when "Everyone has to!", and "It get's there anyway!" Since befouling a well in those days is a capital offense, the villagers hang him the next day.
