Our Texas prison staff has been being cut every year after Judge William W. Justice released Texas from the Ruiz vs Estell case in 1992. The Ratio of Correctional Officers to Inmates is already about 70 to 1. As for Private prisons saving money, These prisons are built with tax dollars on donated land where the private companies get to keep as their property and also receive tax abatments (they do not pay taxes for) for 7 to 10 years. These private prisons do not provide medical or education for the inmates either.. If an inmate gets sick he is transfered back to a TDCJ facility so the medical cost does not cut into their profits. Another problem is that we as tax payers are also paying to maintain the facilities owned or leased by the private companies so that they will not lose profits. PRIVATE PRISONS ARE JUST ANOTHER WAY TO TRANSFER OUR TAX DOLLARS TO THE FRIENDS OF THE POLITICIANS AND IN SOME CASES THE POLITCANS ARE RECEIVING HUGE POLITICAL CONTRABUTIONS IN RETURN. GOOD EXAMPLE OF THIS IS WHEN THEN REP. RAY ALLEN WAS CHAIRMAN OF THE CORRECTIONS COMMITTEE IN THE HOUSE OWNED A PRIVATIZATION CONSULTING FIRM IN GARLAND WAS THE AUTHOR OF SEVERAL LAWS THAT WOULD HAVE PRIVATIZED TDCJ AND HIS COMPANY WAS GOING TO BROKER THE DEAL. WHEN THIS WAS EXPOSED BY THE CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS UNION , THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE, TOM CRADDOCK HAD NR. ALLEN WITHDRAW HIS BILLS. THE LBB STUDY STATED THAT WITH THE PRIVATE PRISONS NOT PROVIDING EDUCATION OR MEDICAL THE TAXPAYERS WOULD NOT BE SAVING ANY MONEY BY PRIVATIZING THE PRISON SYSTEM. GOVERNOR PERRY FIRED THE CHIEF AUDITOR THE DAY AFTER THAT REPORT.CORRUPTION AT ITS FINEST.
JUST REMEMBER THAT IT IS THE CORRUPT REPUBLICANS THAT HAVE BEEN IN CONTROL OF OUR STATE SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND GOVERNOR’S OFFICE FOR 16 + YEARS AND ARE THE CAUSE OF ALL THE PROBLEMS IN OUR STATE.
